Specialist Travis Dean Picantine, 23, of Sesser passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Fort Drum, New York.
Travis was born in Springfield on Sept. 26, 1986 to John Robert Picantine and Tammie Jo (Goessman) Picantine Severs. He attended Sesser-Valier Community Unit School before enlisting in the U.S. Army in April 2007. He was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia for basic training and AIT, and then was stationed at Fort Drum, New York with the 10th Mountain Division. He returned to Fort Drum, New York after his 1st tour in Afghanistan.
He is survived by his mother Tammie Jo Goessman Severs and husband Keith of Sesser, one sister Megan Marie Bowlin and husband Ethan, and one special niece Lily Marie Bowlin all of Sesser. He is also survived by his grandparents Harold Dean and Margaret Marie (Mingear) Goessman of Sesser, and uncles and aunts, ┬áRichard William “Ritchie” and Becky Goessman of Silverdale, Wash., Michael Dean Goessman and Tammy Goessman of Sesser, cousins, Aisha Mitchell and husband Ned of Sesser, Michael Goessman of Silverdale, Wash., Jesse Goessman of Silverdale, Wash., Mikena and Mikala Goessman of Sesser. He is survived by numerous paternal aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his father John Robert Picantine, his maternal great-grandfather Harold Goessman and maternal great-grandmother Josephine Goessman, paternal grandparents, Lego and Lucille Picantine, and his maternal great-grand mother Margaret Mingear Zugg.
